Acacia berlandieri, "GUAJILLO" - Large shrub or small, multi-stemmed tree; heat loving w/ fernlike, light green leaves
-- flowers are fragrant, ball-like puffs of stamens, white aging to cream & born in early spring. [20] (W*S*)
Acacia boormanii, "SNOWY RIVER WATTLE" - Suckering shrub that can be trained as a tree w/ slender, gray-green,
2-3 in. leaves & showy clusters of bright yellow, fragrant flower "puffs" at branch ends in late winter/early spring. [20]

Acacia greggii, "CATCLAW ACACIA" - Drought tolerant, deciduous small tree/large shrub w/ spiny branches & tiny,
ferny leaves; flowers are fragrant, creamy yellow bottle-brushes produced spring to fall if irrigated. [10] (H*W*C*S*)
Arctostaphylos manzanita 'Dr. Hurd', "DR. HURD MANZANITA" - Calif. native small tree or large shrub to 15 ft. w/
mahogany bark, large, light green leaves & clusters of white, urn-shaped flowers in late winter; well adapted to gardens

Bauhinia variegata, "PURPLE ORCHID TREE" - Spectacular, deciduous tree w/ light green, 2-lobed leaves & 3-in.
purple, orchidlike flowers in late winter/early spring (a few may have white flowers). [13/15] (H*)
Butia capitata, "PINDO PALM" - Choice, very slow-growing palm w/ tightly arching, feathery, gray-green leaves, leaf-base patterned trunk, and delicious, aromatic, yellow to red fruit; one of hardiest palms. [10]
Caesalpinia mexicana, "MEXICAN BIRD-OF-PARADISE" - Heat-loving, small tree or large shrub w/ ferny, blue-green
leaves & showy clusters of lemon yellow flowers throughout warm weather; needs good drainage. [5] (H*W*)
Callistemon 'King's Park Special', "KING'S PARK SPECIAL BOTTLE BRUSH" - Hybrid small tree/large shrub w/
narrow leaves & masses of bright red, bottlebrush flowers over long spring & summer season; hummingbird favorite.

Calocedrus decurrens, "INCENSE CEDAR" - Large, Calif. native, evergreen tree w/ dense, pyramidal crown & aromatic

Casimiroa edulis, "WHITE SAPOTE" - Subtropical tree, deciduous in frost, w/ shiny green, hand-shaped, divided leaves

Chilopsis linearis, "DESERT WILLOW" - Calif. native, fast-growing small tree or large shrub w/ airy appearance;

Chitalpa tashkentensis 'Pink Dawn', "CHITALPA" - Water efficient, small tree w/ willow-like leaves & clusters of pink,

Cinnamomum camphora, "CAMPHOR TREE" - Slow growing, evergreen tree to 50 ft. high & wide w/ thick,

Evergreen tree w/ dark green foliage handsomely variegated white, fragrant, white flowers & fruit w/ light pink flesh

Citrus grandis x paradisi 'Oroblanco', "OROBLANCO GRAPEFRUIT HYBRID" - Grapefruit/Pummelo hybrid -- an

Citrus sinensis 'Cara Cara' navel orange, "CARA CARA PINK NAVEL ORANGE" - Evergreen tree w/ handsome,
dark green foliage, fragrant, white flowers & sweet. seedless, orange-skinned fruits w/ pink flesh produced in early to

Cryptomeria japonica 'Elegans', "PLUME CEDAR" - Dense, slow-growing, evergreen conifer w/ tiered branches &
feathery, blue-green foliage that turns a striking bronze-purple in winter. [2]
Cupressus sargentii, "SARGENT CYPRESS" - California native, evergreen tree; grows fast to 10 ft., then slowly to

Eucalyptus shirleyi, "SILVER-LEAVED IRONBARK" - Striking small tree w/ rough, gray-black bark, contrasting

Firmiana simplex, "CHINESE PARASOL TREE" - Choice, deciduous tree w/ distinctive, thick branches, huge
lobed leaves & handsome green bark; small, yellow flowers are followed by interesting, leaf-like pods. [33/16]
Ginkgo biloba, "GINKGO TREE" - Slow-growing, deciduous tree w/ light green, fan-shaped leaves that color
yellow in fall; unsexed seedlings -- female trees may bear malodorous fruit, edible seeds. [17]
Heteromeles arbutifolia, "TOYON" - Versatile, Calif. native, water-efficient small tree/large shrub w/ toothed,

Hovenia dulcis, "CHINESE RAISIN TREE" - Deciduous tree w/ gracefully layered branches, bright green, pointed

Juniperus californica, "CALIFORNIA JUNIPER" - Local genotype of this Calif. native, evergreen, small tree or

Koelreuteria elegans, "FLAMEGOLD" - Medium-sized, deciduous tree w/ large, divided leaves, large clusters of

Melaleuca linariifolia, "FLAXLEAF PAPERBARK" - Small to medium-sized tree w/ white, papery bark, bluish

spiny, green branches, sweetly scented white flowers & decorative but inedible fruit; branches especially striking in
